Based on the lesson, reflect on the need to develop a current and future state business architecture.
As in with any structure, there is a need for a blueprint. In the structure of a business organization it is important to consider a blueprint so that the structure can have a solid foundation. As I reflect on this discipline called Business Architecture, I consider the building of an actual structure. It is necessary to develop a blueprint when building, thus should be no different when building a business structure. An organization is prone to weaknesses in its structure just as any poorly built building. Careful consideration should be taken when creating and maintaining a successful model. I appreciate the term architecture as it eludes to the idea that an architect who is responsible in the design process. Architects pay special consideration to details and foresee potential weakness, or worse, a complete collapse.
When an organization designs the blueprint and works towards both a current and future model it is striving to be strong and adaptable to future changes. Understanding that the world is ever-changing, it is important to build a sturdy frame, yet build for expansion or adaptability. Architects by nature think of a solid structure that will last, as well as a structure that has potential to be revised for future growth. Furthermore, this discipline seeks to align all parts of the business with a common goal or understanding. It keeps the business focused and and guides decisions and implementations. The idea of a business architecture is like the bridge connecting the departments working towards one mission. All processes, people, applications, and data should be working together traveling along one bridge from the mission statement to the production results. Who wouldn’t want a strong bridge? Personally, I would want my bridge to withstand any earthquake. It is necessary for a business to work to develop a strong foundation for its current state, or it will not withstand any meaningful changes or growth for the future. Any disconnections within the structure's frame will serve as cracks and eventually cause strain on the structure, or its collapse.
