As I consider my journey through a career in education, there are 3 non-negotiable beliefs I carry with me.
1. Do not settle for mediocrity. Reflection is a must. I will not settle for lessons that are "good enough" in my teaching. If I think the lesson is good, I still think of how I can update or improve it for the future. I want to improve for my students. If I want them to seek excellence, so must I. No settling for mediocrity.
2. Stay current. I know in this profession we service an ever changing audience and I don't want to prepare them for yesterday. My lessons must be current. My tools must be current. Making connections between the past and present will better prepare them for planning for their future.
3. Care. More than anything it is important to simply care. Care about who my students are and from where they are coming to me. Care about their feelings and personal situations. Care about my classroom and keep it clean and organized. Care about my teaching by being prepared. Care about my colleagues and share with them. It is simple. Care.
